Verification Marks on Weights by Norman Biggs

This book is one of a series developed from the author's earlier book English Weights: an illustrated survey. That book contains an outline of weights of all types and periods, without in any sense claiming completeness.
Each book in the present series offers a more comprehensive study of a major topic. The aim is to provide a fairly complete survey of the artefactual evidence, especially for the modern period. For older weights both artefacts and documentary evidence are scarce, and completeness is rarely possible. A complementary aim is to describe the historical context for the use of weights of various kinds, and the many different weight-systems wich have been employed.
