On the back cover:
This new map and guide is a full revision of the Ordnance Survey map of Roman Britain published in 1994. It has been completely redesigned and incorporates advances that have been made in our knowledge of Roman military sites, roads and place names since the last edition. The national monuments records of English Heritage, RCAHM Scotland and RCAHM Wales supplied the detailed Roman information that is portrayed against a background of modern Ordnance Survey Routeplanner mapping at 1:625 000 scale.
The map which covers the whole of Great Britain, is printed back to back as north and south sheets and includes a list of key dates, events and archaeological evidence. An informative text describes many aspects of Roman life including land-use and settlement, communication , religion, military and industrial sites, all illustrated with photographs, maps and diagrams. Sites and museums to visit are listed together with a list of additional reading to enhance the understanding and knowledge of life under the Roman occupation.
