Medieval objects recovered from the drainage canals of the city of Salisbury in the 1850s led to the founation of Salisbury museum in 1860. With the subsequent acquisition of many exceptional casual finds and the widest variety of artefacts excavated from nationally significant sites, including Clarendon Palace, Old Sarum, Gomeldon and Salisbury itself, its medieval collection is now one of the most outstanding in any provincial museum.
This catalogue covers objects of bone, antler & ivory, enamels, glass vessels, cloth seals, papal bullae, lead/tin alloy metalwork, balances & weights, pottery, tile & brick and jettons, each section written by national specialists.
Over 1,000 objects are published, many for the first time. Over 650 illustrated.
